The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is the first time to go for online testing. The test determines admission for B Tech and diploma courses in engineering and technology. But the online test failed when conducted last Saturday. Hence the IGNOU announced that the entrance test will be conducted again in the next ten days.

The IGNOU Engineering Aptitude Test (IGNEAT) is the university’s first attempt on going online. IGNOU is India’s largest distance education university.

Around 9,800 candidates took the test on Saturday but the IGNOU server failed and the test could not be conducted successfully.

IGNOU Vice Chancellor V. Rajashekharan Pillai told that the IGNEAT will be conducted within 10 days. He said that they are still trying to figure out the cause for the server failure. The cyber security cell of Delhi Police has been asked to investigate the matter further. A report will be provided by the technicians of IGNOU in a week’s time, he added.

The test was scheduled to be held in five sessions-two on Oct 31st and three on Nov 1st. But the candidates on Saturday taking the exam found only two questions popped on the screen.

Yahoo server was being used by the IGNOU for conducting the test.

Mr Pillai ruled out the possibility of a major security breach. He said that there may not be a chance of hacking. It was a server failure which could be due to load and congestion and that they are planning to use their own server.
