If closely observed Common Entrance test toppers are more often from the state’s remote districts. But that does not mean that they have access to such opportunities.

The Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa inaugurated Karnataka Examinations Authority and Department of Higher Education CET training programme for PU science students of rural areas for CET2010, to ensure that the students do not miss taking advantage of CET.

The CM also inaugurated a Pre-university block at VHD Institute of Home Science. He unveiled the VTU via EduSat for CET coaching.

The other dignitaries present were Higher Education Minister Aravind Limbavali, Medical education minister Ramchandra Gowda and MLA Dinesh Gundu Rao.

The CET training programme is being organized for 13,000 science students from rural areas for null fee to prepare for CET 2010. The programme has been divided into four rural zones with 100 training centers to provide free training throughout Karnataka.

The satellite-based CET training will be provided at these centers. Studios will be set up at Bangalore, Mangalore and Hubli. Experts and experienced professionals and faculty will deliver the programme. Rural students have to come to the training centers to attend classes; sessions will be telecast from these studios.

Around 60 students will be accommodated in each classroom. Student’s doubts will be cleared via satellite and the solutions will be telecast to all the centers at the same time.

The aim of this programme is to help the economically weak students and those who lack specialized faculty by way of competitive capability and increased mental ability. Free study material is also provided to the students.

Periodic tests in the subjects and their evaluation will be conducted so as to increase students’ competitive capabilities.

Keonics Bangalore is the implementing agency of the training programme.
