Fianl year engineering students of Mumbai in trouble
Engineering students who have dropped out in a subject or two in their final year are in a dilemma now as the BE syllabus for final year is set to change from the academic year 2010-2011 onwards, and the final year exams scheduled on December 9 onwards. The students have asked the university to enforce N-ATKT (New Syllabus Allowed to Keep Terms) rule.
The online petition has been started at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/natkt
The N-AKT rule is usually enforced when there is a change in the syllabus. It enables students who have got ATKT and are forced to repeat a year to be directly promoted along with the KTs. This helps the student from missing any new topics or repeating topics in the new syllabus.
Usually students who have more than five ATKTs are not promoted to the next year unless they clear the subjects. With the new syllabus coming into force next year for the final year students, the students of old syllabus will be affected.
Sovick Mehta, a second year BE student said that he has a drop in the second year as he had more than five ATKTs. But after he clears it and gets promoted to third year of the new syllabus, he would be repeating some of the subjects and miss out on few others.
With the help of N-ATKT, students with more than five ATKTS will be permitted to sit for the current semester exams scheduled from December 9. However, in spite of the petition, the varsity has remained silent on the issue. Chandra Krishnamurthy, in-charge vice chancellor of Mumbai University was not able to be contacted. An official said that they have not issued any policy regarding N-ATKT rule. However he added that they have received the petition from the students.
