About two decades back, The first established IIT in the country was the most preferred destination of the Engineering students across India. About some 8 years back, IIT Kanpur was the most preferred destination of the Engineering students across India. Today the scene has changed with not even a single student from the top 100 joining the Kharagpur IIT.

The IITs located at the Industrial and National Capitals of the country have dominated in this regard. There is a consistent shift towards IITB, in the JEE topper’s preference over the past few years
